Map 5. East Street - Waldingfield Road
From Upper East Street, Acton Lane and Waldingfield Road to Constitution Hill. There are many later hand-drawn additions along these roads - most are easy to spot. Note the Smallpox Hospital and the many pits where workers dug down through the overburden of sand and clay to reach the chalk below for lime burning. The Victoria Works is now the site of Banham Drive. LXXII.15.20
