World War Two

Sergeant Owen Bacon

Owen Bacon was born around 1922, the youngest son of Charles and Ida Bacon. The family lived at 39 Acton Lane, Sudbury. Owen attended North Street School and then Mill Lane School. One of his friends from that time recalled him as ‘a nice pleasant fellow’. He had an older brother who worked for the Electricity Board. Owen joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 serving as a wireless operator/air gunner. Before the war he was employed with the East Anglian Electric Supply Company in Sudbury.

Owen died aged 21 on 6th May 1943. He lies buried in Nakuru North Cemetery, approx. 60 miles from Nairobi, Kenya.
