The Chantry and Salters Hall seen looking west from outside Kentish Lodge c1900. The entrance to Plough Lane on the extreme left. Most of these late medieval timber-framed merchants' houses are seen covered in render whereas today most of them have had the render removed, exposing a wealth of wooden studwork. Note the gas lamp on the right and the water hydrant on the left - probably connected in order to fill up a water cart to lay the dust on the streets.
