The first of four images taken in February 1942 when the London Scottish Regiment was based in the town at the Drill Hall in Friars Street. George Douglas Smith was in the regiment at this time and we are extremely grateful to his daughter for allowing us to include her father's photographs. See also images pa 832, 833 and 844. Image 1 - a fine action shot of the pipe and drum band leading the regiment up King Street past Wheeler's timber yard and Dixon and Scotts.
