The oldest image in our photo archive - and it looks it! However it has real interest. It dates from the late 1850s and shows Joseph Francis Hills standing outside his watchmakers and jeweller's shop. Behind him is his father Benjamin who died in 1859 and it may be one of his daughters, Kate or Fanny, in the other doorway. By 1870 Joseph was also the town Postmaster.
