Nigel Partridge (left) with Bruntons Propeller's foundry supervisor, Cyril Reeve, photographed in September 1984 with the four bladed 93-inch diameter high tensile manganese bronze propeller for the 'Southern Quest.' This vessel carried the Swan and Mear's 'In the Footsteps of Scott Expedition' to the Antarctic in 1985. The party trekked the 1400 km to the Pole but meanwhile their anchored vessel was crushed by pack ice and sank, taking the Sudbury propeller into the depths of the Antarctic Ocean.
