Mr Pickwick arrives at the 1911 Pageant, staged to celebrate the Coronation of George V. In the foreground is the hustings on which the voting in 'Eatanswill' took place. The houses in the background are in Cross Street and a hessian screen was erected along the edge of the meadow through which the spectators could watch proceedings. It was designed to also simulate a medieval castle.
