A production of "Merrie England" which took place in Belle Vue Park on June 30th 1954 to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter to Sudbury by Mary Tudor in 1554. Hilda Paton as Queen Elizabeth (seated), Alan Rix as the Baker (tall hat and apron) and Brunhilde Wood as the May Queen (right foreground).

The market town of Sudbury, on the borders of Suffolk and Essex, has a long and fascinating history. Much of the way of life in the town since the invention of photography has been caught on camera.
