The ArchiveThis archive is largely the work of David Burnett, who assembled and selected the photographs, and Robin Drury of Radius Design who designed and constructed the website, ably assisted by Simon Appleby and Pat Thorpe. Establishing the copyright of old photos is notoriously difficult, since they may have passed through a number of hands and even recopying since they were originally taken. If we have inadvertently breached any copyright we apologise - please contact us. In many cases photographs came in with nothing on the back in the way of information. We have provided approximate dates and any details we have but please do use the Option "Tell us more about this photo." This is an educational not a commercial archive. We have high resolution scans of most of the images and you are welcome to contact us if you have a particular reason why you would like a copy. However, please note that we may refuse such requests - some of the photos are covered by known copyright restrictions and we will always need to consult the person who contributed the photo. N.B. We have no copyright objection to you downloading and printing ANY of the photos in the archive, directly off our website, but we do advise you that these will be of poor quality and at low resolution. ContributorsThe photographs in this Archive came from a very large number of sources as well as the Trust’s own collection. We are very grateful to the following:
All aerial photographs in the archive are published by permission of Simmons Aerofilms. Images 308-318 were supplied by the National Monuments Record, Swindon which holds the copyright. Copying or downloading images Nos 308-318 is not permitted. For copies contact English Heritage, National Monuments Record, tel. 01793 414707 or visit the National Monument Record section of the English Heritage website. |
