Private Wilfred Argent Jennings

8th Depot Battalion, Australian Infantry, Australian Imperial Force

Wilfred Jennings was born in Sudbury in 1876, the son of Frederick and Ann Jennings. His father was a builder employing five men and two boys and the family lived at 39 New Street with a live-in domestic servant. By 1891 his widowed mother was managing the Temperance Hotel in North Street and by 1901 Wilfred had moved to London and was boarding along with other draper assistants at Aberdeen Place, Marylebone.

It is not known when Wilfred emigrated to Australia but he is recorded as enlisting in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where the 8th Depot Battalion was based.

Wilfred died in Brisbane on 26 April 1916 and lies buried in Brisbane General Cemetery, Australia.

Wilfred is also remembered on the Australian National War Memorial, Canberra, Australia.
